1. to drink alcohol?
About 16 (?), or whenever the body can handle moderate use of alcohol without damage. 2. to have sex? Tough one. I abstain. 3. to smoke cigarettes? Never. That shit should have been illegalized 30 years ago. 4. to take drugs? What kind of question is this? Never obviously. 5. to have homosexual relations? Whenever they feel like. Note though that this is *not* same as question 2 unless you automatically assume that homosexual relations involve sex. 6. to vote? I don't think a whole lot of people would begin voting before 20 even if it was lowered below 10... 7. to drive an automobile? 16 maybe. -S- |

Greetings:
I don't think children should be allowed to do any of these things unsupervised, and some of these things should only be done by adults. I think that once a person is old enough to make intelligent, informed, unsupervised decisions about whether or not to engage in these types of behaviours, they are old enough not to be considered a 'child' any longer. I think your question should have been phrased, at what age should a person be considered an 'adult'? I'm strongly leaning towards 18. Keith. |

I would have to say that if someone is old enough to want it, they are probably old enough to have it - people start drinking, smoking, and fucking completely independent of laws attempting to prevent them from doing so. As for the age of consent, I would favour something along the lines of people being restricted to within a couple years of their own age until they are sixteen or so. Sixteen is the age I would favour for voting and driving as well.

I'd actually be in favour of assigning a 30-something woman to every 16 year old male. Not only would it cut the crime rate, but in 5 years, 21 year old women would thank us. |

1. to drink alcohol? (You mean to buy alchohol? in the UK, you can drink from pretty much any age (10+?) in your own home)
Beer: 16 Spirits: 18 2. to have sex? 14 yrs with an under 18 partner 16 yrs otherwise (Ok, that's a pretty stupid law, I can't see how it would technically work, but something along those lines) 3. to smoke cigarettes? 16 4. to take drugs? 16 (hard liquor is far more damaging than soft drugs) 5. to have homosexual relations? Relations: no restriction Rooting: 18 (I don't believe children are mature enough to understand their feelings, and they could be emotionally damaged if they get into something like this too early) 6. to vote? 18 (children who do not pay taxes should not be allowed to vote. Take a look at the kids standing on street corners in your neighbourhood. Are they responsible enough to vote? No) 7. to drive an automobile? 18 |

Take a look at the adults standing at street corners. Are they responsible enough to vote?

I am for setting the age of 18 for someone to purchase alcohol, cigarettes, and drugs, since that is when they become legal adults (at least in the USA). For the age of drinking alcohol or smoking cigarettes, I would leave that up to the parents. Pesonally, I do not want to see someone under 14 getting drunk or smoking cigarettes.
14 years old to get a learners permit to drive a car. I believe that 14 is when most people are physically capable of driving an automobile. I would want a couple of years for a person to have a learners permit before they can get a full license so I would set the age to get a full drivers license to 16. 18 to vote or when a person is considered a legal adult. I do not know of an age to allow someone to have sex or homosexual relations. I would support not allowing someone 18 or over from having sex with someone under 14 because of mental and physical differences. |

By the time I was 18, I had been working full time and living on my own for 2 years. Let me assure you, 'children' pay taxes. |
