Actually, no it wouldn't. It would be, "I accept as true those things for which there is compelling evidence to support the truth claim."

Ignorance is ignorance. I don't care who thinks as you suggest; it is incorrect. But putting evolution in quotes makes it look like your 'creed' was not a summary of atheistic thought. Rather, it looks like your idea of our views. Especially since just about everyone has criticised the rest of it: it is too wide of the mark to be genuinely thoughts culled from real atheists.

So you're not a creationist? Yes or no? If no, you may go about your day with no further hassle from me. If yes, I cordially invite you to explain yourself... in the appropriate forum, of coure. Do we share a common ancestor with chimpanzees and oak trees? Yes or no?

They combine perception with logic in a probablistic attempt to approximate justified true beliefs, and are generally never entirely sure that they have arrived at justified true beliefs. What's your point?
geoff, did you not notice this response or did you ignore it?

Tronvillain,

I did read your comments, but thought it would be more appropriate to pursue that issue in the philosophy forum. (Which is where I'll head as soon as I'm able to dig myself out from my work.)

I also know that "evolution" is the process by which organisms (and, hence, families, organizations, people-groups, etc.) develop, and that morality is based upon this evolutionary scheme...

There is an important distinction between an atheist arguing that evolution is a reason why we HAVE morality, and an atheist claiming to base his personal moral code upon the reality and workings of evolution.

There are many examples of the former (including myself). I have never seen any examples of the latter on these forums. Natural selection is a fact of life, not something seen as essentially "good" or "moral". In fact, I think most atheists see it as a rather shoddy way to run a Universe: hence, evidence for the nonexistence of God.
