RBAC,

If you think that you can discard all those other areas because of your ability to rationalize things, then why not rationalize the whole thing away?

You say that the only things you hold to, you hold to them by faith. Well, why not the rest?

BTW, I am not an atheist. I am actually a fundamentalist. Not the typical one...nevertheless, a fundy.
Because---------to answer both questions, I can do anything I want to do. As long as it feels right to me.

I choose to hold Christian core beliefs-------might call it a "gut feeling" as the basis for that, and I admit highly irrational in that respect. But it is still my choice. And my "gut feeling".

I also choose to throw out much of Christianity as my choice. Call it a "lack of gut feeling" for that part of it.

And, of course, I believe I have the Holy Ghost right with me to help me make my choices. What good is a Holy Ghost if he cannot do simple things like that?

What holy ghost? Not the one from the Bible, right?

I do accept the "literal" resurrection of Jesus. But I am still probably about as liberal a Christian as you can get.

I also accept the "literal" semi-Godness of Jesus. Born of God and the virgin Mary.

It seems you really do not know or understand liberal Christians. You just think you do. And make up stories about us. To your misunderstanding.
Perhaps as a clarification in terms, for me 'literal' means physical, but I see where 'literal' could mean simply that Jesus was resurrected, be it physically or figuratively.

I once listened to a call-in show where the preacher was looking for input from 'liberal Christians' who accept a 'spiritual resurrection' rather than a 'physical' one. To me, this hits the nail on the head rather than gum-flapping (but nice term.) Certainly there are other areas where liberals take things with a grain of salt, but to me it all boils down to physical resurrection vs a figurative one.

I'm not a Christian but I have no problem at all with the concept of Jesus rising from the dead. It's called materialisation and it's well attested in the spiritualist literature.

Can you please explain how the same "holy ghost" that tells you to disregard a lot of the bible, tells fundamentalists that ALL of the bible is the inerrant word of god? What is he doing, lying to them?

Also, does anyone know any good websites that explain liberal christian beliefs?

I don't tell fundies what they should believe. I like my interpretation of the Holy Ghost and his purpose. Works for me. The fundies can believe whatever they want to. I try not to be too judgemental.

Maybe "literal" was a poor choice of words in this case. I simply meant---where fundamentalist take the whole Bible literally, I just take parts of it that I agree with literally.

I can go with either spiritual or physical resurrection. Not that important anyway. The idea of some kind of resurrection and a promise of an afterlife by example is what is important.

(Although I will admit the idea of a physical resurrection is more appealing to me. I don't see how a spirit could have sex in heaven. --------and heaven without sex would not really be heaven to me)

Not really. Besides Islam seems like such a strange religion to me. Will admit I only understand it superficially. But superficially --Islam is a definite turn off. After all Muhammed was horribly egotistical, a pedophile, a polygamist many times over even the muslim maximum for that, an illiterate, a seriously aggressive warrior with almost no compassion for his enemies, a prophet who many times said "do as I say, not as I do". Not really a very good role model for anyone. All things considered, and in comparison, Jesus makes a very good role model.

I see nothing definite in the Bible prohibiting sex in heaven. Marriage is prohibited of course, but what does marriage have to do with sex? Marriage is a legal contract definitely necessary on Earth to civily protect the spouses and their children.

No childbirth in heaven that I know of so no need for marriage. I think if sex was prohibited in heaven, the Bible would have been very explicit about it.
