Kittens are SO EASY and cheap to come by.

Step one: aquire a female cat that has not been spayed
Step two: wait

I'm allergic to cats, so I will have to refrain from keeping a cat around.

Got any other advise?

Good call. I'm alergic, too. Open up a newspaper, or do a google search on "free to good home".

Hey now, my small furry masters say you'd better knock it off with the talk of kitten-eating!

Until they scratch you.

Then it's into the pie they go!

Nah, they don't scratch me enough to matter - they know who feeds them!

On a serious note, while I understand on an intellectual level that eating a horse, dog or cat is no different from eating a cow, chicken or pig - my knee-jerk emotional reaction is total disgust and horror.

But, since this particular emotional reaction isn't hurting anyone, and I'm not a Vulcan*, so I don't insist on being logical all the time, I'm not too worried about the inconsistency.

*too bad, pointy ears would be cool...

Horses are our friends. I'd never eat one! Unless I was hungry.

BTW I consider myself a member of

Unless I'm hungry...

The thing is, there is no shortage of food, at least not in the U.S. People are starving because the surplus food isn't getting to the right places. My (athiest) mom volunteers at a (catholic) mission (don't ask) that feeds the homeless. They get a donation from Starbucks every day of all the leftover biscotti and lemon bars and other pastries. One of her tasks is to remove the broken pastries and throw them out, and make the whole and nice ones available for the people who need them. Why should homeless people have to settle for broken pieces, when there are whole, nice pastries available to them?

Four tons of undergound horsemeat would not help the starving people in this country any more than the tons of food donated to charity every day does.
You've got to be kidding (re: the leftover broken pastries)! Reminds me of the "muffin stumps" episode on Seinfeld. Geez, when it comes to malnourishment, shouldn't snobbery and pride take a back seat (at least for a while)?
