It is a main source used on the chapter on St. Paul on the same site (ie a much condensed/summarized version.) http://mac-2001.com/philo/crit/PAUL.TXT http://mac-2001.com/philo/crit/PAUL2.TXT Agreed though--The original is the best if you have the time to read a whole book on the topic. (I was making the assumption he did not want to read 10-100+ books). |

Sojourner, you give some excellent references. I haven't read any of 'em yet, but they do look like they confirm what I've discovered in my own independent research in a number of out of print books I have in my home library...which is why I myself don't give out text references when I make statements. Also because you can find any ole snit on the internet with no guarantees of accuracy or over-exerted editorial perogatives.
"Is The Bible Real?" isn't a realistic topic because first one must state WHICH VERSION of the Bible we're talking about, and it's gonna take more than one paragraph to set just THAT up. There are a couple of clear observations one can make on one's own just by flipping through the Western Christian Bible whether Catholic or Protestant: 1) Although Peter is claimed to be the Jesus-appointed leader, there's only two measly memos of his in the NT; the bulk of the NT is comprised of the "Pauline" letters (to/from Paul and/or Paul's righthand men). 2) Acts' description of pre-conversion Paul presiding over the court concerned with Stephen in a constabulary office is unmistakeable; also when you get to the part where he approches court to get a warrant to persecute Christians outside the city of his usual jurisdiction...where he already had and utilized his authority to throw lots of people into the pokey. The man was a Rome-recognized officer of the law, and he took full advantage of it even when it came to hijacking Christianity from Peter... 3) Acts 15:36-41 makes mention of the huff-off of both Peter and Barnabas by Paul. 4) People who are believers in "The Bible" call these instances "agrapha", politely, but quite blatantly, these are cases where scriptures are cited in the NT but can't be found anywhere in the OT. One such example of Paul's: Acts 20:35. I expect that Paul isn't the first to invent a religion as he goes. MY FAVORITE SCRIPTURE: 2 Corinthians 11:1 |
