Darwin's Beagle: That's it! You ever have one of those "it's right on the tip of my tongue" moments? That's what Froehlich was arguing about: the genus Hyracotherium needs to be reassessed because paleontologists have stuffed a bunch of different critters into a single genus. Hence the reference to polyphyly. Gakh, I'm stupid. I was letting the cretinist define the debate, allowing him to conflate genus and species. You'd think after all this time I'd know better. Thanks a million - especially for the Linnean Society reference.
