Default Support our Troops? WTF?!?

I don't get it. I keep on hearing how we are supposed to support our troops. In time of war, wouldn't supporting our troops mean actually going to war and risking your own life besides them, not waving a flag in the safety of your front yard, 5000 miles from danger, chanting U.S.A.?

After war, you support the troops by not holding them accountable for the decisions of their idiotic generals.

Am I crazy or something, or is being for the war in any way supporting the troops?

soldiers need war to survive, and also to die, so the best way to support them is to start wars and not send any troops.

My favorite is when commercials use supporting our troops as a reason to buy their goods. For instance, an RV seller in San Diego suggested that the best way to support our troops is to go RVing...yeah, strong connection...

I also think one can support our troops (i.e. be concerned about them and the job they are doing and hope for their best efforts and welfare) without supporting the war. I support people who do their job and do well at it, always. My stance against the war is not a stance against our troops and I hate how warmongers suggest that so successfully about those of us who are anti-war...

Fuck the troops. I don't agree with what they're doing, so obviously I'm not going to "support" them. That is just a stupid attempt by the establishment to get us to support this stupid war.

Obviously I don't want anyone to get killed, but war is hell after all.

As we used to say back then, when dinosaurs walked the Earth and our unelected president was dodging the draft:

Suuport Our Boys: Bring Them Home.

For me, supporting the troops is independent of conflict or war. The troops are American citizens who enlisted for active duty or for the reserves knowing that doing so may result in their lives someday being in harms way protecting and defending America, its citizens, and the Constitution, thus ensuring each American citizen the right to say "F[---] the troops."

While some may not agree with the decisions of military leaders (e.g. the elected Commander in Chief), the troops are sworn to follow the commands given to them (with exceptions) and deserve the honor and respect history, and the price of American freedom, has afforded them.

So, while I may disagree with military leadership and reasoning for military conflicts, I will always support the American citizens who are protecting my American freedoms. That is, I will always support the troops.

The worst kind of self-righteous, jingoistic piety.

Support our troops: bring them home, now.

How exactly do you always support them?

Moral support?

Everyone defines support differently, in WWII it was support the troops, give up your pots and pans to make ammo.... Sometimes it's "support the troops, bring them home"

So for me, I'll always "support the troops." By that I mean I have overwhelming respect for these guys who sign up to possibly die for this country (whether this war is about dieing for this country ot dieing for oil is another thing). I know I don't have the ball to sign up... So thats how I support the troops. Moral Support. I sit in my safe, warm american home... watching my big american tv, cheering everytime CNN says the troops are doing good.
