A Danish Lutheran priest has been suspended from his duties after confessing that he does not believe in God.

This shows why theocracy could be good for us. The article mentions how the church can't fire him because all of the ministers are government employees.

That's hilarious. You just gotta love all those who want to destroy the wall between church and state.

That's nothing. Our old "christian" priest was actually an atheist with buddistic leanings. He never believed in neither God nor the bible, but thought religion was interesting, so that's what he studied. Then he realized that there are very few jobs for theology students exept for being a priest. He was by far the most popular priest among us youngsters until he quit last year.

In fact, one of the leading movements for church/state separation in Denmark consists of some of the bishops and ministers employed in the state church. They feel, among other things, that the church' tight relationship with the state is quelching it's spirituality.

Thorkild Grosboel, pastor of Taarbaek, a town near the capital Copenhagen, said in a recent interview that "there is no heavenly God, there is no eternal life, there is no resurrection".
I think it was indeed refreshing.

The local community is outraged at his suspension, and if he is sacked the local church counsel will secede from the state church.

We do have our fanatics here in Scandinavia, both Christians and Muslims. Just not that many, but do keep in mind that we are a small nation afterall.
