Well, destorying the Taliban is just a political tactics to find scapegoat, rather than to liberate the people of Afghanistan from religious extremists. So, this wasn't surprising at all.

I went to an Opus Dei school for six years. They only allow the celibate members to self-injure for mortification purposes, but they definitely do encourage the practice.
