Many problems throughout history have come about because one person or more believed they were speaking for and doing the will of their God. Yet, none of these people can produce one shred of evidence that their God exists. It's a tragic fact of human history.

Do Christians ever question why so many within their various ranks seem to get oppossing messages apparently from the same God? Nope. They just write it off and say they're wrong because it doesn't agree with their interpretation or the interpretation of the particular denomination they belong to.

God cannot speak for himself because he is still confused about what language to use. Should be Hebrew, Greek, Latin or a living language? If he speaks in spanish would the Baptists accept it? If he speaks in English would the French accept it?
See the problem?

It's his own fault, what with that Tower of Babel incident and all...

Muslims get around that problem very easily. They believe that Allah can only speak Arabic.

Devnet!!
(Cornbread man gets garbage can lid ready to fend off rotten tomatoes, eggs and stuff. Takes deep breath, prepares to play Devil's Advocate God )

It is I, Devnet!! The Lord thy God. I have heard your pitiful cries and deign to answer thee as I will. I see that thou art trembling, so I will take thy words before thee:

But... for heaven's sake! Why can't God Himself say it's offensive?! If God doesn't like it, can't He say so, loud and clear, that everyone may know?
You betcher non-believing ass, for heaven's sake. I already did say it was offensive--no, wait, I told 'em at Sinai not to take my name in vain. You're a smart guy, Dev--can't you make the jump? All the Jews and Christians and Muslims got it. I ain't got the slightest idea why I'm asking you this--okay, I really do, but I just ain't going to tell you, because I'm mysterious--just why in the hell should I give you an extra-special revelation, when you ain't gonna do nothing about it anyways? You'd just say you was having an "hallucination", or some other hog-wash. Believe me--I know.

Peace and transforming cornbread Barry

Jebus sez: "eat my flesh (bread) and drink my blood (wine) that you shall know salvation".

Allaugh sez: "intoxicants of any sort are forbidden to you, for they are an abomination of Shaytaan (Satan)".

Whacha we gonna do now? Decide by majority vote? Get those two on the ring and let them fight it out? This is SO childish, just like "my daddy's stronger than your daddy!", "my dad can beat the crap out of your dad!".

Elohim tippesh, Theos moron estin, Deus stupidus est, Allahu ahbal. I suppose these are all the languages God ought to understand. I want to make it clear to Him that I called Him stupid. Waiting for a retribution from Him soon... why wait for the Afterlife when He can punish me right now? Allah, Allah, limaadha taraktani? (that's Jebus's last words in Arabic).

And what's worse, Jesus Christ had reportedly turned water into wine for a wedding party.

Question

Hey all, I'm new here, but I'm going to try and contribute. I'm not really atheist, but I don't really believe in a god either, I guess the best thing I can say is I'm agnostic. I do, however, enjoy discussing with other people and I'll explain it the way I've always heard it which makes the most sense to me.

I was always told that with free will, God gives us the choice of what we do and do not do. He gave the Bible as something to look to and he sends people all the time to tell others what he's saying, it just so happens that no one really listens.

Now, granted I've just gotten here but I've been a little appalled by the way some of the "believers" have been treating anyone who doesn't believe. It makes me happy that the people I talk to care a little more about teaching than proving the other wrong

Just a note: if you don't really believe in a god, then that means you really don't belive in one, right? Then, sorry, but you're really an atheist.

I so grow tired of Bertrand Russel's little straw man of the atheist position. Knowledge of god's(gods') non-existence isn't nessicary to be an atheist, lack of belief in his/her/its(/their) existance is.

Hello, Zuri, and welcome.

Your formulation is interesting. Out of curiosity, are you equally agnostic when it comes to such things as:
  • naturalism,
  • reincarnation and past life regression,
  • UFOs and alien abductions,
  • Wicca and the Green Man,
  • Hinduism,
  • the 'God of Abraham',
  • Scientology, and
  • Theosophy?
Put somewhat differently, is it fair to say that you don't really believe in naturalism in the same way that you don't really believe in God and the supernatural?

Take care ...
