Gemma,

Because I am a Roman Catholic.
Excellent answer. That is, in fact, the very same reason that Hindus believe in Shiva rather than Yaweh!

Although I disagree with the method of basing an article of dogma upon a set of dogmas, I think it is more important to recognize the circularity of faith than it is to remedy it. I commend you on this insight.

Come on, Gemma Therese, as one who has studied "systematic and moral theology, atheism, mysticism, comparative religions, the Gospels, Christology, and Catholicism," not to mention having questioned "every facet, saint, belief, doctrine, dogma, and practice" of Catholicism (apparently to your own satisfaction), you ought to be able to offer a coherent set of reasons why you adhere to the faith. No one is asking you to prove the existence of deity as such; just give us some reason to think that your acceptance of this particular Semitic god is reasonable.

That shouldn't be hard for a polymath and obvious cultural giant such as yourself.

Gemma,

In the event that you ever truthfully answer any of my questions, I don't want you to think I am ignoring you - but I will not be posting over the weekend. However I will have something for you on Monday.

Grammar is a part of me. I want to be a high school English teacher. Hmmmm, maybe I should learn to spell before I corrupt the youth of America!
