Yes. If he were teaching in my kids' school district, I'd be attending the next school board meeting with a flamethrower (metaphorically speaking).

why the metaphor? I've got one you can use, if you want to. Just be careful to only point it at fundies.

I'm not convinced that sciteach is being entirely truthful. I strongly suspect they are just another run of the mill fundamentalist, and does not, and will never, teach any kind of science at all.

Sciteach, if they were for real, would know full well that teaching creationism in biology class would get them sacked. Also, the comments that s/he makes about what s/he is 'planning' to teach shows that sciteach has no knowledge of what a curriculum is. Teachers (in my experience) do not exclaim, apon discovering that they 'have' to teach a certain class "Oh! I will teach them all about this!"

If the school is anything like a normal school, you will have an extremely tight biology curriculum, covering everthing from cell biology to basic anatomy and a quick skim over practically everthing else in one of the largest fields of science, all in a single year. There is usually no time to give evolution more than the breifest mention, let alone start introducing "alternative theories".

Thus: I think Sciteach is not going to be a teacher at all any time soon, unless I have badly underestimated the american education system.

A look at Sciteach's profile shows the email address paulhease@yahoo.com

A quick google search for "Paul Hease" turns up a web-site for Morgan Park High School (in the Chicago area) that lists a "Paul Hease" as a science teacher.

Dunno if it's "Sciteach" -- but if it is, hopefully the administration at Morgan Park HS will keep him on a really short leash if they end up having him teach biology.

I steer clear of that kind of amateur PI. That kind of investigation leaves a huge margin of error, and I wouldn't like it applied to me. I would prefer to have simply asked Sciteach which school he teaches at.

Is morgan park a public school? If it is, then we might be able to save Sciteach from getting into some very hot water if he plans to charge into biology class with creationism guns blazing.

Based on what I've seen bringing four kids up through parts of that system, overestimating it would be more likely. The number of dumb-jock football coaches teachi- er, supervising history classes over here is just astounding.

Not in a private school. And I don't think the type of school was mentioned.

I think some church-based schools make time to teach creationism in science class. That's probably what science class is for. There's one lovely case in England of a school where the head of science is on record as saying that theology is the queen of the sciences and that creationist alternatives should be presented as the superior ideas they are. That whole case had Richard Dawkins hopping mad!

I hope you're right. But in some areas it's hard to underestimate.

The page itself, if you follow the link, does not show Paul Hease as a teacher. However, the cached version of it shows him under "Science".

I tend to believe he is a science teacher fo some sort, probably physics, because of <a href="http://collaboratory.nunet.net/cybrary/get_descriptions.cfm?LibraryID=823" target="_blank">this</a>.
