There is a difference between determinism and causality. What QM did was point out the difference. QM posits the death of classical determinism not causality. Events still have causes, it is just that in general given a specific set of causes it is not possible to predict exactly which event will occur. But it definitely rules out certain events from happening and puts a probability on occurrence for those events that are allowed. Nature must stay within the average.
Well said. Ingersoll does not distinguish between the availability of uniquely determining causal explanations and the availability of naturalistic explanations more generally. That's because there was no reason to do so in his day. Now there is. But that's not a problem, not even for Ingersoll's argument, since a uniform substitution of "naturalistic explanation" (or syntactic variants) for "cause" makes his argument come out just peachy.

Robert Ingersoll?

Yeah, I've heard of him. But I've never read his stuff.

Why should I care about the implications of quantum mechanics and causality on Robert Ingersoll's philosophy?

Are you so desperate for some kind of intellectual vindication for your superstitions that you have to willfully misinterpret a freethought essay, or are you simply functionally illiterate?
Can we start a poll on this?
