Gyanendra is a little Hitler. He had his entire family machine gunned so he could become King. The King was just a figurehead the last 10 or so years until Gyanendra just happened to be out of town during the massacre supposedly committed by the Prince who then conveniently killed himself. Now he is attempting to amass as much power as possible. The resistance against him is winning though. So he's been arbitrarily picking up anyone that just might be in the resistance and having them tortured and killed.
Not a good time to visit Nepal. The US gov doesn't give a shit so much because Nepal is a poor country. The best way they (the US gov) can use the situation to their advantage is to let the "Maoists" get powerful so they can bring back red scare tactics as justification for future imperialistic forays. |

While it seems a stretch to compare Vietnam to Nepal, replace "terrorism" with "Communism,"and the parallels are disturbingly similar.
Considering the terrain and how extremely tough Nepalese people are, the US government would do well to limit their intervention to selling/giving weapons. |

Hola!
How did the current king of Nepal talk his nephew into killing his whole family, including his brother? Did he buy the boy the Jack Daniels and cocaine and stick a CIA like transmitter into his head telling him to "kill, kill, kill?" From what I have read, the Nepalese disliked the current king, and his son (the next king) is a drunkard (not a sin in my book) who ran over a royal subject with his SUV and walked free without punishment (which is a sin). Can you imagine what Nepal would be like if the Maoists won? Mass starvation. Nepal is desperately poor to begin with. Communists have never brought anything to a nation except death, disease, repression, starvation, and denial of human rights. Maybe George W. Bush can invade Nepal to give the people "democracy". Or not. Senor |
