Default Women in combat contreversy finally put to rest?

POW reportedly fought captors with gun

Will the actions of this young woman finally put to rest the age old debate about women in combat? Somehow I doubt it.

Thumbs up

I am all for allwoing qualified women in combat.
But by the same token I am for having the same rules for Selective Service apply for both men and women.

If the reports are accurate PFC Lynch for her bravery and courage under fire.

So let me get this straight, a WOMAN from a HATED country who is severely injured in a gun fight and kills several MEN in an Islamic country that SHE is INVADING is taken by the same people SHE shot at to a hospital where she was cared for for 8 days.

Those evil Iraqi's, what atrocities will they think of next!

I take it we can dispence with all that Geneva convention violation shit now?

No where in the linked article does it mention that she was being treated in the hospital. Did you see that somewhere else?

I did hear on CNN (I don't know if it has been confirmed or not) that this hospital was being used as a military command post. This makes sense if you know your enemy is trying very hard not to hit civilian targets.

Did you read the article?

Quote:
"She's real spirited. She hasn't eaten in eight days and she's hungry," said her father, Greg Lynch. "She wants some food."
They didn't feed her for eight days. And has two broken legs, that I think havn't been treated.

Article 20 of the Geneva convention:

The Detaining Power shall supply prisoners of war who are being evacuated with sufficient food and potable water, and with the necessary clothing and medical attention. The Detaining Power shall take all suitable precautions to ensure their safety during evacuation, and shall establish as soon as possible a list of the prisoners of war who are evacuated.

Talking

"Soldier uses firearm against enemy."

And this is supposed to be news?

Quote:
"She was fighting to the death," the Post quoted an official as saying. "She did not want to be taken alive."
...but the Iraqis hadn't read the Hollywood script, and consequently spared her life.

Those meanies!

If she had two broken legs that were untreated for 8 days then the stupidest thing on earth to do would be to move her to Germany for treatment!

In fact after 8 days without food or treatment the move would have killed her (even being alive after 8 days without treatment with her wounds would be a bloody miracle!).

She was in a hospital for treatment, similarly the other POWs that were filmed had obviously had treatment (they were covered in bandages remember!), and if she was able to survive the "rescue" and the flight to Germany then that treatment must have been pretty good given the severe conditions that Iraqi hospitals are having to operate under!

We should be congratulating the Iraqi medical staff for their obvious skill in saving her life and berating the stupid pillocks who put her in so much danger flying her to Germany (unlass as I have said her treatment had been so good that she was in no danger!).
