Sickening. Byrd's not talking about black people, Jews, or Catholics. And Byrd was the worst of the fatuous Bible bashers in the Senate after Newdow, and he was vehemently excoriated around here for his fraudulently pious grandstanding. Hugo Black was a Klan member too, but he was also possibly the closest thing to a free speech absolutist ever to sit on the Supreme Court. So why can't he be criticized for the former, and lauded for the latter? I don't see anything sickening about that. Originally posted by Iamthebeerking Iraq worked out fine and will work out fine. Just because it's not a paradise today doesn't mean that the future guarantees failure. Yeah I read the U.S. authorities are confiscating the Iraqi citizens' guns. How do you like them apples? I should go dig up a couple of Larry Pratt quotations to demonstrate some real hypocrisy. |

If Byrd is looking for pork, he picked an unusual way of showing it. Considering that the majority of people or nations who speak out against this admin pay for it dearly by not only being frozen out of the game but suffer retribution style consequences I'd have to say his words seem quite genuine this time around.
Maybe he has feelings of guilt, maybe he is fed up with all the BS he was once a part of. Whatever the case, unless you really know what these neo-cons are up to and how it affects YOU, I wouldn't be so keen on defending them and their so-called ME "visions". |

I have to believe some of them, whether it's a McCain or a Wellstone or a Byrd, sometimes have some conscience and compassion for us little people. Sometimes. |

I could see the anger if Byrd was from California or Texas and brought home all the bacon for some rich state, but he's from West Virginia. Our state is so pathetic and poor that there is actually a satirical movement here ala "A Modest Proposal" and "The Mouse That Roared" that wants the US to bomb our state and then, just like in every other FOREIGN land we've bombed, reconstruct our infrastructure. It's the only way we can forsee our schools being rebuilt, our citizens receiving adaquate healthcare, and our state actually gaining profit from our natural resources rather than the profits being sent off to New York to some mine owner that has never set foot in the entire state.
We are just about the most ignorant, poor, unhealthy state in the union (thankfully there is Mississippi). If it weren't for him, we'd be even worser into the dark ages because no one else gives a shit about us. |
