Remarkably low point for you Yguy. Perhaps you need to step back and take a breather? You as much as admitted that it was the QUALITY of the parenting, rather than the quantity of it in another thread. There have been gay marriages for thousands of years, they just haven't been legalized. Perhaps you need to look at the cohesion of ancient greek civilizations before you support the biggoted views of DK.

Hey - give me something to be ashamed about first. I'm trying to give you a bigger target. Once you're able to hit that one, mabye you'll be able to hit a smaller one, like the nuclear family.

I am quite aware that you fail to see the validity of my example. It is valid nonetheless - obviously a little TOO valid for your taste.

Anyhow, don't worry -- you should be able to sit down again in a week or so.
Oh, please. You haven't laid a glove on me the whole time I've been here.

So how does that contradict anything I've said here?

There haven't been "gay" marriages - just homosexual unions.

Rome was pretty cohesive too, until the people started indulging their various lusts - shortly after which Rome went the way of all those Greek civilizations.

There were many causes for the fall of the Roman Empire, but sexual lust wasn't one of them.

Did I mention sex? Their are many kinds of lust, all rooted in selfishness, which is what brought the empire down. Now way in Hell can a populace suffer leadership under the likes of Nero and Caligula and not pay the piper.

Rick, that's a perfect analogy. I was actually thinking of the Holy Grail Black Knight, chopped to pieces but gibbering, "It's only a flesh wound!" But yours is much more topical these days...

Have you any evidence for an assertion of such astounding breadth? Off the top of my head I can think of a good half dozen factors in the collapse of the Roman empire, none of them even remotely related to people's more ungenerous carnalities.

Well, that piper was apparently willing to play on layaway, because the empire didn't fall for another 400 years.

And you are confident that if the causes of those factors are traced back far enough, the trail won't ultimately to some form of selfishness? I wouldn't be, if I were you - but you are welcome to run a few by me.

So what's the problem? The people who allowed such men to come to power had children who had children...so that they passed their "bad karma", if you will, to their descendants, who passed it to their descendants...

Selfishness is awesome. Enlightened selfishness instructs one that the best way to get what one wants is to work hard and be a good member of society, because that is the easiest way to have a great life.

Criminal actions may seem like an easy way to get what you want, but the penalties outweigh the rewards, unless you are an excellent, hard working criminal. Which takes more work than a 40 hour a week job after a good education.

Oh, and Cal Thomas is an idiot.
