MadKelly -- I am asking why you think God is a childhood myth.

Why do you think Santa, the Tooth Fairy and the Easter bunny are myths? Society/peers/parents usually don't confess to the god myth. They actually believe it..

It all depends on your definition of God. For example, if you were claim there is a neccessary fundemental energy from which all other existence depends on, I might agree. If you called this energy God, I suppose I would agree that God exists.

If you were to say that a being exists with infinite powers, and yet acts exactly like a glorified Zeus deity concept, I would have to disagree. The world seems to work well enough without the need for such a deity.

So please do define what you mean by God. Any deity concepts in particular you have in mind?

I believe phlebas is saying the reasons behind your not believing in Zeus are the same reasons most atheists do not believe in God....I would answer the same way.

I do not believe in God for the same reason I don't believe in fairies or Santa Claus...never had any personal experiences indicating a deity was involved and never seen any evidence that compelled me to believe.

Not at all. I'm saying that your reasons for not believing in Apollo or Zeus are the same as mine for not believing in God.

Edited to add: Most excellent -- my words are coming out of LadyShea's mouth

Sutg, even though I have no idea if you are a theist or not I'll answer your question in a manner that will include either case.

I don't believe in god for exactly the same reason you don't believe in the Infinitely Benevolent Ganesha.

Martin

SUTG, all these others have given good answers- let me direct you to <a href="http://iidb.org/ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=55&t=000020&p=3" target="_blank">this thread of atheist's 'testimony'</a> where many of us have given short introductions. (I'm about four fifths of the way down the page- I suggest you read all the introductions there, too. You will get acquainted with many of our regular members that way.)

Thumbs down

I must say, as an atheist, it's a little sad seeing how pathetic the answers are so far to the question.

Hello Atheists...
I am new here and would like to introduce myself and ask a question. The question is "Why don't you believe in God?"

Welcome, SUTG:

Personally, I find that too many people are willing to kill each other over their contridictory (yet divinely inspired and absolute) definition of God(s).

Also, I can't think of any reason why I should believe. Can you?

I doubt anyone here is interested in writing a term paper over such a general question.

Of course, you are more than welcome to dazzle us with you own answer.

As an atheist, just what do you find pathetic about Darwins Finch's "Utter lack of evidence."?
