This does seem a bit early for 18 year olds. I just barely caught some of it, and I'm 20. And I'm embarrassed for my peers.

Oh, and Paul Newman makes good salad dressing. But I like him as an actor better.

Hehe... A long time ago my parents used to have a B210.

Red face

Well, my first car was a Datsun 1200 coupe.

And I got a telegram as a kid(buggered if I remember what it was about, now, though).

I remember when black and white TV was the only choice(at least here in Oz).

I still remember my first long-distance phone call- it was to my paternal grandmother in England, and had to be booked a few weeks in advance.

I remember them new-fangled ATM-thingies, and push-button phones comin' in, too...

Geez, and I'm only 32(for a few weeks more, anyway). That's not old. Is it?

I hate these kinds of lists. I'm mid-twenties and I probably recognize almost as many "older" pop culture references as my parents. And since I have young brothers-in-law, I also recognize most of the current slang (though you'll definitely never catch me talking about "bling bling" or my "peeps.") Some of them are factual, fine--yes, there's been a test for AIDS since their whole lives; yes, Ricky Nelson was always dead to them (and how have you people never heard of him? His sons, the group Nelson, were popular not that long ago, and his name got a lot of buzz then). As far as photocopies, I can barely even get them at work due to a renovation project...I'd be estatic if I had a copier at home. And wtf is up with this one:

Perhaps someone can alert the 18-yr-old fundie, who I've debated on a Christian bbs regarding how "satanic" rock music is, that it's "always been a force for social good." It would make the debate much easier!

Many of the items on the list are so true for me. But I have no idea what those mean.

3. Peeps are not a candy, they are your friends.

5. They can expect to get a ticket for "ricing out their wheels."

What the heck do they mean? And I'm only 21.

For me, this isn't true.

8. An automatic is a weapon, not a transmission.

I always think of cars when I hear automatic. I suppose it depends on whether you grew up around weapons and/or high crime areas.

I'm 21 and barely relate to your average 18 year old. Sure, we understand the same mid - late 80s pop references, but somewhere around 98 we just split apart. It's interesting when 3 years accounts for a huge shift in music preference. Most 21 year olds I know like "Rap, Rock, Rap with Rock." Most 18 year olds I know like "Rap, Hip Hop, and some like Punk" Rock is dead to a lot of them.

Let me put it this way, I was once told "That Pink Floyd guy is a faggot." by my younger cousin for wearing a Pink Floyd shirt . Anyone who talks about Floyd, Zeppelin, Hendrix, etc is way "queer."

Ask him if that Jethro Tull guy is that Pink Floyd guy's lover... I bet they're friends with Thin Lizzy and Steely Dan. Do they all go over to that Molly Hatchet girl's house to have dinner with her and her girlfriend Sister Hazel? Is her brother really Lynrd Skynyrd?

Since I still drive a stick, it's certainly not true for me.
