Why in the world do you need to run more than one monitor simultaneously?
Bigger desktop!

How about 3840 x 1024? You can actually have your work and your referennce material on the screen at the same time.

I stopped at 3 because I see no way to comfortably use more.

Consider: The Matrox Parhelia card can drive 3 monitors itself, although you give up a certain amount of flexibility to do that. (As far as I'm concerned, a bad decision on their part. Otherwise I would probably be running their card rather than the two I'm running now.)

So... let me get this straight. You have three monitors showing different tasks that you're working on. Is that it?

Where does the 3840 x 1024 come into it? I don't know of any monitor that's capable of running at such a high resolution.

That means he has three monitors next to each other with a resolution of 1280 * 1024 each.
So you could use that as one monitor with a resolution of 3840 * 1024.

I'm a programmer. I'm likely to have the form I'm working on on one screen and the code editor on another. The third is available for whatever I might want to put there, such as the reference stuff on an API call or the like. It's not unusual for me to find myself wanting more desktop space.

It's not one monitor. It's three, all at 1280 x 1024.

I couldn't handle that--too small even with my glasses on.

This is why I use Mozilla, with "minimum font size" set to 18 point.

The web isn't the only thing I do with my computer!
