I'm in love!

The OP reminds me of a flap that occurred some years back in this area. A local Republican politician caught flack from the local theocrats when the dingbats (typographical ornaments, not theocrats) in his campaign literature included -- oh, the horror -- a triangle. A wag wrote a letter to the editor of the local gay rag, saying that gays should keep co-opting words, symbols, and color schemes until eventually the homophobes would have no way to communicate with one another.

You certain about that? In Taiwan it's on everything cute, such as pencils, pencil cases, book bags, things for little kids, teenage girls, and even adult women who just like cute things. Where'd you find out about that? I known about Hello Kitty since I was old enough to talk, and it's NEVER had anything to do with adult...novelties...

It's the same in Korea, and other Asian countries.

America isn't doing anything particularly unusual. I fail to see the terror of it. And I LIKE Hello Kitty! American things are uncute and so...hideously ugly. Gah.

Hello Kitty is a huge cutesy mascot thing. It's mostly on little kids stuff. But it has a large adult following (adult as in, older person not pornographic) as well.

There is a "Hello Kitty" personal massager. It can easily be used as a vibrator. That was not it's intended function, but hey: It's a vibrating cylinder. Not exactly rocket science, here.

The item has become very (in)famous in certain circles for existing. I've seen it up for sale on a few sites. (JAST and J-list carry it, I think.)
