Dear Arken,

I think you fail to appreciate the import of your title.

The purpose of this agency is not to keep us safe, but to make us feel perpetually UNSAFE--so that they can systematically strip us of freedoms in the name of protecting freedom.

Remember all the Imminent Warnings? All the Code Oranges? The "credible evidence" that soon someone would blow up the Golden Gate Bridge? Or the Winter Olympics? Or the NBA playoffs? That oil tanker trucks had been stolen and were on their way to blow up something big and important? Plastic sheets and duct tape?

This is called Perpetually Crying Wolf.

Agreed, paul. Although at this point, it seems to have put most of us in a state of indifference. There are some days I almost hope there will be a major terrorist attack because it's so dull sitting through these regular reports of the code being changed from this to that for no apparent reason.
