Come on. I mean really-come on.
Could a worse source be given? My velvet painting of a clown crying has just given way to a velvet painting of Elvis laughing his ass off. |

Ok, I'm a bleeding heart liberal, and that was pretty silly. I don't see how starting a war with Cuba would win the hearts and minds of Cuban Americans. I'm assuming they'd like to see their relatives alive. Besides, what would the US get out of invading Cuba?

Let's start with the Bay of Pigs invasion.
As Beyelzu pointed out, the situation today is obviously much different than it was in 1961. The reds aren't the bogeymen anymore. We're supposed to scared of Islamic fundamentalists now, right?(There are so many things the news tell me I'm supposed to scared of, I forget sometimes.) Even though Cuba is on America's shortlist of countries with biological weapons and the island is less than 100 miles away, I'm not sure that Bush could make Americans believe that Cuba poses a threat to our national security. But I didn't think he'd be able to make them believe that Iraq was a threat either, so maybe I'm putting to much faith in my fellow americans on this one. Either way, I don't believe that the Bay of Pigs invasion really applies to the situation today. Also, the Guardian article implied an AMERICAN invasion, ala Iraq. The Bay of Pigs was run differently. Maybe I'm just dead wrong here, but I can't imagine any Cuban-American, no matter how much they hate Castro, watching the Air Force bomb the hell out of Havana on CNN. |

You mean Bay Of Pigs was solely because of the Cold War ? oooooooo ! And therefore zamboniavenger could be right ? Let's go back to zamboniavenger's argument: Quote:
ooooooops !! ![]() ooooooo, hang about, according to Beyelzu 's argument extension, it was solely because of the Cold War that the USA marched into Panama (or is pouring money and "advisors" into Columbia); oooo, I mean Noriega was a Communist dictator on the march into Washington, and Grenada was choc-a-bloc full of MISSLES POISED TO RAIN DOWN UPON AKRON, OHIO. ooooo. I guess I'm wrong ? The entire Guardian article is simply wrong ? I shall duly flagellate myself ! |
