Would that make good music or good poetry?

Good voice. Titney Spears sounds like a cow having multiple orgasms (Thanks to my friend Leon for that one!)
I tried to picture the actual sound of a cow having multiple orgasms; it's quite amusing. The good voice addition is a good one. I've forgotten how many bands I dislike mainly because the vocalist can't really vocalize that well (I'm not necessarily saying I need a classically-trained vocalist; just one who has the vocal control to actually hit and stay on a note.)

Personally I tend to enjoy vocalists that sing in a non-traditional fashion. it is almost always the atypical vocalists taht grab my attention like Doc Dart (the crucifucks), Jello Biafra (DK), Aesop Rock, Dose one, Thom Yorke, Jeff Magnum (Neutral Milk Hotel), Isaac Brooks (Modest Mouse) etc...

Most of the time vocalists who are really "talented" get on my nerves, for example every R+B singer who feels the need to show of their vocal range and do this goofy as wobbling thing. I don't know how to describe it, but you know what im talking about....

Rock vocalists?

If anyone comes even close to within the same LEAGUE as Mike Patton, I'd like to hear them.

What do you consider being in the same league as Mike Patton, pray tell?

Freddie Mercury? But I guess Queen wasn't really the same kind of band as Faith No More. Oh well, I still love Freddie Mercury.

AIDS sucks.

my criteria:
  • I'm one of those people who like to listen to the sounds themselves, so complexity and/or well structured composition is a must.
  • Something that can place me in a specific frame of mind, or even better, no frame of mind at all, just pure concentration on the music.
  • Lyrics are optional, but if they are used, they have to be decent. Decent varies depending on the subject matter, but the basic criterium is non-cheesy eg.

"I hurt, why did you leave me, i need your arms around me"

    etc. etc.

if they're in a language i don't speak, even better, it means i won't sit there going "oh man, why did you write that".
  • And memorable, as ihiuvme said.
these things don't necessarily mean i will enjoy the music, but so long as i can appreciate an aspect or two of the talent and thoughts behind it, i can call it "good".

Talking

Even if it's just me outside your window screaming slavically at you whilst banging garbage can lids together, my Blexy Wexy? Is that still good music?

Make it rubbish bin lids AND some very large chains and then I'll think about it.
