I agree the notion of petitioning God assumes he is a waiter taking your burger and fries order, but you cannot duck the petitionary purpose of prayer of prayer in Christianity:

Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. 7 And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Perhaps you could quote Biblical examples of non-petitionary prayer? I am not aware of any such prayers in the scripture off the top of my head. I realize many Christian mystics have held forth of the notion of meditative prayer, but they are really describing the praise and worship aspects of the psalms, or even ecstasies, not prayer.
