Two separate evetns. BUt at any rate I encourage everyone to go to a Dean meetup. They are the 1st Wed of every month.
To find the one closes to you go to: http://action.deanforamerica.com/meet/ We had about 80 people at the one I went to in Orlando, and that is with two separate ones for that city. The other gorup is actually bigger. Great place to meet people and talk politics. Plus I met a hot chick there that is intelligent, into politics, and likes to travel ![]() Oh yeah, and it supports Dean.. or something.. ![]() |

I went to my Dean Meetup last night.....well over a hundred people there, up from 50 a month ago. I do media stuff, we had a freelance writer show up interested in a story.....things are looking good. I actually feel empowered.........and I even met a cute chica who's supposed to email me.

I've been suggesting the Dean Meetups for months now to those on this board who've been asking for ideas to meet people.
It seems the people who attend are of the low-religious type. There's quite an age range usually. And if someone catches your eye/mind you can always try to volunteer for the same activity that he/she is signing up. Obviously, you'd want to increase your chances by RSVPing for a site with a good number of participants. Even if you are just attending to support Dean, it's usually a fun group of people and a good time. |

(That is, good times that do not involve desertion, stealth DUIs, and cocaine...) Go Dean! |

I attended my first Dean Meet Up this past Wednesday aswell. I was the only young person there. Everyone was really nice. We discussed:
>Ways to tap into the community that is not internet related. >Get the attention of state and local Democratic Party officials. >How to get local press coverage of Meetups and Dean's Campaign. Blah blah, lot's of wishy washy shit. Not that I expected to be having a discussion or anything. Generally the folks who go to these things are there because they already know where the candidate stands on the issues (or at least think they do). Anyhow, was a positive experience if only cause I met this guy Jeff. He was very knowledgeable about individual rights. And was opposed to creating an "Organization" of Dean supporters just to garner more money and possible support from other committies. I was also opposed, this isn't about creating an isiolationist group. The idea of this "grass roots" campaign is to reach people who otherwise wouldn't be able to pay the 25 bucks for membership. We can be just as effective in meeting at places like public parks or restaurants. Errr, anyway, that's what I bitched about the majority of the night. I'll be going to these meetings on a regular basis from now on. If only to be a thorn in their asses. |

I'm sure since the polls indicate that atheists/agnostics are only around 10% of the population that there are believers at Dean meetups, but I'd say they'd be of the more liberal bent. On the average, I'd say that Dean meetuppers are less religious than the population as a whole. (I'm probably stating the obvious, eh?) My point is, if you like Dean, and you're interested in possibly meeting someone who doesn't have religion rule his/her life, you might try attending a meetup. ![]() heroin: Sorry your meetup wasn't a better experience. I guess I'm not sure what "Jeff" was objecting to. I don't think the organizers expect everyone to be excited about every initiative for action or organization that's offered. I say be involved only as much as you want to be. |
