Trying to "explain" why somebody is an atheist is trying to say that this is abnormal behaviour and must have some unsual cause to explain it.

Fundamentalists are more likely to look for such explanations. I had one fundie tell me that the reason I believed in evolution and not creation had something to do with having been tought about dinosuars in schools. If I had not heard this one before I would have laughed but he was dead serious.

I was never thought about dinosaurs in school. I explained to him that by lack of belief stemmed from the fact that I read the Bible. I proceeded to show him.

The better question is why believers continue to believe against enormous evidence that it is all bull?

Yes, he forget that not all atheists are deconverts!

And when I lost my (atheist) grand-mother 2 weeks ago, I would have found far more comfortable to believe in soul immortality!
