Why, thank you ma'am! (referring to Kally, of course). Don't worry; it (misunderstanding) happens to me too.

Amos:

Exactly and guilt should never be part of giving and to give from abundance is equal to giving from guilt.

I don't think that's necessarily true. It's possible that, for example, Gates' motives are based on real concern for the unfortunate. Who are we to summarily judge his (or anyone's) motives for philanthropy?

(Note that I realize that, earlier in the thread, I did allude to Gates perhaps picking up his philanthropy from his wife; I probably shouldn't have said that, for I of course don't know what's in his heart.)

Further, if some rich person gives billions of dollars partly out of "guilt" or any other "unpure" motive, and that money goes to prevent thousands of children from suffering a horrible, unnecessary death, I'm all for it. His or her motives for giving don't concern me.

But I sure don't object to giving money to the poor but the parable of Jesus indicates that if we give out of abundance we do not give of ourselves. That's all.

I further would never judge the motives of Bill Gates or even suggest that his wife was the cause for his generosity. Not all all. He's a gentleman in my view.

Eddie Cantor's(sic) 1920's song, "When My Ship Comes In":
"I'll buy Barnum & Bailey/ and move them right nextdoor./
They'll give 3 performances daily/
for the kids who never saw a show before."

And in the meantime, how bouts lighting that single candle?

After getting lifetime memberships for AU, FFRF, and the ACLU, I'd be working heavily on the activist front to keep church and state separate, and to get god off our money and return our national motto to E Pluribus Unum!

If I think of anything else, I'll be sure to post it.
