Biff the unclean-
Do you normally generalize groups of people in this manner, or are you just having a bad day? <inflammatory remark deleted - liv> Obviously the sins of a few shouldn't be put on the rest of us. |

First the molestation of small children by Roman Catholic Priests and it's cover up is a national scandal that dates back decades and perhaps centuries. Second, the hit and run vehicular homicide just occurred this week in Phoenix AZ. The same Bishop Thomas O'Brien who cut a deal with DA admitting he covered up numerous child molestation by priests cases attempted to cover up his own crime. There is no generalizing being done here I am quite specific. Nor am I mocking the victims as you imply. I am mocking the victimizers. Or don't you know the difference? Obviously the sins of a few shouldn't be put on the rest of us. And since no one did that would make this statement a strawman. But I'll tell you what sin you are guilty of. For you to cry foul because the RRC has been caught at criminal acts is disgusting. It's attitudes like yours that have encouraged these criminals and allowed them to stay free to victimize more innocent children. You should be ashamed of yourself. |

Right...so, I am trying to cover up crimes by pointing out that you are a hypocrite? A common theme on this site it "tolerance" and not generalizing people, good liberal ideals, right? Well, you are a hypocrite.
See, when you make the entire RCC out to be in league with these few criminals, it is called a generalization, and it exposes your bigotry against us. |

The only thing even remotely offensive about that joke was the suggestion church officials deliberately covered for the child molesters in their midst. Which they did, by quietly shipping them off to new parishes. That is a fact, and the RCC has been lately shelling out millions in compensation for their acts. Your money, if you're an envelope stuffer, by the way. And some reports indicate J2P2 himself was aware of these antics. |

PaladInChrist, I'm going to explain this carefully, because it seems like many Catholics have trouble with this:
An attack against the church hierarchy is NOT an attack against Catholics. Of course the priests, bishops, and cardinals want you to think it is. Then they can manipulate you all into defending them for their criminal behavior. And they've been successul at it so far. If someone says "the Catholic church has been swindling their parishioners out of their hard-earned cash for 1500 years", many Catholics will take this as a personal attack. If I say "The American Catholic bishops have been covering up and enabling child rape for at least the last 20 years", many Catholics will take it as an attack, even though I am attacking the people who are victimizing them. It reminds me of a battered woman who lies to the police to protect her abusive husband. |

No, you are covering up…or more accurately demanding that a blind eye be turned toward…crimes while calling me a hypocrite. You neglected to point out how I was one. A common theme on this site it "tolerance" and not generalizing people, good liberal ideals, right? Well, you are a hypocrite. The common theme of this site is "Atheism and the search for Truth". It does not include tolerating child molesters. It does not include pandering to hit and run drivers. And it certainly has nothing to do with to tolerating their superiors who hide their crimes, ignore the law of the land and enable them to continue their outrages. See, when you make the entire RCC out to be in league with these few criminals, it is called a generalization, and it exposes your bigotry against us. Bullshit, show where I did that? And it's time to take your blinders off. It's a hell of a lot more than a "few." The problem is epidemic there are hundreds of child molesters who are priests in this country alone. As for it going on for twenty years I can remember the same scandal happening in the ArchDiocese of New York forty years ago. The 3 priests who "touched" altar boys were sent for counseling and then moved to unsuspecting new parishes in other parts of the country with fresh stocks of little boys. The good Catholics of New York closed their eyes, the police were never called, charges were never pressed. And that's what you are doing, closing your eyes. Angered that anyone will even mention it. You should be ashamed. |

You say "HUGE" number of priests are child molestors? Prove it...count the number of molestors and count the number of priests, then show me the percentage. |
