Funny thing... the rally entourage comes here every year. Only once have I gone out into the woods to watch. That was because my dad made me...

In the hope of making at least someone jealous and/or angry about me being an idiot for not taking the chance to watch some top class rally.

ooh ooh! I'll have to find the listing on Speed channel!

And I'm not jealous. I truly don't understand wanting to go to a rally race - wouldn't you just catch one tiny little bit of the action? Watching the summary of last year's season, I was surprised at the number of times they had to cancel stages because there were too many spectators at the side of the road for them to run safely.

Then again, I'm not an outdoors person.

Some people tell me that you need to bring a radio along to get the "bigger" picture. Out in the woods there is just a car swooshing by while making rally car noises. I am also skeptical as to where the fun is in that. Right now the temp is about -15 C or 5 F outside.

I guess with some warm clothes, something warm to drink, a few good friends and a little alcohol paired with a genuine interest in cars and/or rally it could be fun.

I think it would have been good if you had distinguished between open wheelers on ovals and what is known as "road racing."

I agree. Of course, I'm prejudiced: when I was racing Formula V (affordable at the time), we referred to the above as "toilet bowl racing."

Now, for real racing, nothing will ever come close to the old, wonderful, dangerous, Nurburgring... I remember watching this race on German TV: the best view of all was from their network helicopters...
