She didn't leave any weapons. I hadn't considered the possibility that she was storing the ammo for someone else. I doubt it though. She was very reclusive. I don't know that she had any friends.

Jeeze people, we have no idea how many guns she actually owned, just that she left behind a bunch of ammo. Maybe she regularly went target shooting, and bought the ammo in bulk. Maybe she used to be a gun dealer, and ended up with a bunch of stuff when her store went out of business.

I'm talking hundreds of rounds of all different sizes.
It's probably too late now, but could you be more specific? 2 boxes each of 50 rounds of .22, .45 and 9mm caliber bullets would meet the above description, and doesn't seem terribly alarming to me.

I'd be suspicious because she left her car behind, and left without notifying the landlord, not because she left behind a few boxes of bullets.

Cool

Owning multiple guns really isn't much of an indicator of a violent person. (Really. For people who are avid hunters several different types of guns might be required... or people might be private collectors. Whatever.)

Having a huge amount of AMMUNITION, however, can be. Generally, hunters don't require all that much. Someone who has 200 boxes of 50 rounds each... it's not tough to believe that this person is expecting a firefight.

It isn't PROOF of anything... but it's enough to suggest.... caution.

Do you know, outside of America a woman living in a duplex armed to the teeth would be considered dangerous. A single handgun for personal protection I can understand, in the American context, but it sounds like she had an arsenal.
Yes... and in many nations outside of America a woman who doesn't cover her face and who has the audacity to speak at any other time than in response to a man who is specifically speaking to her is also considered to be dangerous.

Your point would be, what exactly?

I served 10 years in the U.S. Air Force but as an electronics technician. I did require frequent qualification training in the M16 rifle (because of my posting in mobile units) but I cannot claim in any way to be an expert on firearms.

My neighbor left behind a large number of very small rounds (much smaller than M16 rounds) and a smaller number (a few dozen) of rounds much larger than those employed in an M16. I have no idea what type of weapons might have used this type of ammunition. All I know is that my Christian neighbor possessed this stuff. I have no idea why. It just got my attention!

Talking

To the response that people should have no reason to have large amounts of ammunition or guns in their homes--my father is the coach of the shotgun/trap/skeet team for our county. He buys shells by the case! Talk about hundreds and hundreds! In addition to what may be needed for target practice/fun and hunting. All of which are different kinds and sizes of bullets for several different types of guns.

Gun ownership is no indication of violence--and I don't think that having large amounts of ammo at home means anyone is expecting a firefight. Otherwise, I should be much more careful around my folks!

Of course, I'm from the Southern gun culture.

I still think your neighbor's a nut for leaving like that though.

Other than skipping town, my house could be perceived similarly. Yes, there are guns (two) and ammo (I have no idea how much), yes there is pornography (oh the shame), and there are anti-Christian bumper stickers and books.
