Good, I'm glad you understand how difficult it is.

For this to have any relevance then all scholars would agree with your interpretation of the text.
I wouldn't be foolish enough to expect all.

But that is far from the case. There are many scholars who are not trapped in religious dogma who call a spade a spade.
ROFL!

People like you try to use the translation excuse to change a text to mean exactly the opposite of what it says.
Only when the Greek is quite clear.

I have seen it over and over again so do not be surprized if I do not go along with your little game.
That should be an 's' and not a 'z'.

The absurdity of your position is best shown by pointing out that all the Bibles that I consult have been translated by believers. So your position is that they are all incompetent.
Again, I would not be foolish enough to say "all".

How about posting what they say (you know cut and paste?) so we can all read what they said?

Since anybody can access the links, why should I take up extra space?? I was very careful when I posted all of the URL links in this thread to always leave a space between the URL & the "&lt;" & "&gt;" symbols!! Incidentally, if anybody ever tries to access a link that doesn't work, make sure that the "&gt;" symbol wasn't transferred with the URL -- If it has, simply delete it with your backspace key, & try again!! If I've posted any URL link in this thread that you haven't been able to access, tell me which one it is!! ALSO, remember that ANY site on the web might be temporarily unavailable!!

Please try to refrain from ad hominem remarks in posts. Let's stick to the issues. Secondly, David's religious affiliation is really immaterial to the discussion as well. His arguments stand or fall on their own merits.

I did NOT criticize him for his opinions, & I ONLY criticized him for replying to a post that he had NOT fully read! I think that it's relevant that he's a Seventh-Day-Adventist, because S.D.A.'s profess to have all of the truth, & they're also very judgemental of others.

I was raised in the SDA church after we left the Methodist church. However, I have never been taught that we possess all the truth (it doesn't help) and we most certainly are not "very judgemental of others". We frequently get sermons lecturing us that there will bemore outsiders in heaven than SDA's because they are living up to the light they know vs. too many SDA's who don't. You may have run into some extremists who haven't listened too well.

Here's some web sites I just ran across that deal with Matt. 24:

<a href="http://www.richardajordan.com/exegete/matt24c.pdf" target="_blank">http://www.richardajordan.com/exegete/matt24c.pdf</a>
<a href="http://www.thingstocome.org/harmony.html" target="_blank">http://www.thingstocome.org/harmony.html</a>
<a href="http://www.lamblion.com/prophecy/issues/PI-06.html" target="_blank">http://www.lamblion.com/prophecy/issues/PI-06.html</a>
<a href="http://www.winn.com/creed/Matthew24.html" target="_blank">http://www.winn.com/creed/Matthew24.html</a>
<a href="http://www.forerunner.com/beast/X0003_Gentry_on_Matthew_24.html" target="_blank">http://www.forerunner.com/beast/X0003_Gentry_on_Matthew_24.html</a>
<a href="http://www.whyprophets.com/prophets/drift.htm" target="_blank">http://www.whyprophets.com/prophets/drift.htm</a>
<a href="http://www.bible.org/docs/about/matt24net.htm" target="_blank">http://www.bible.org/docs/about/matt24net.htm</a>

In his commentary on Matthew D. A. Carson (a very well-known and highly respected NT scholar) points out that the "history of the interpretation of this chapter is immensely complex". He also noted that it has "called forth more disagreement among interpreters". He cites two studies that might be helpful to those who are seeking to understand the history of interpretation of this chapter:

1) G. R. Beasley-Murray Jesus and the Future. (Macmillan, 1954)
2) David Wenham "Recent Study of Mark 13," TSF Bulletin 71 (Spr. 1975, & 72 (Summer 1975): 1-9

Thank you for having good manners!
==============================================
David Conklin, make sure that you tell all of your S.D.A. friends about his "good manners", especially your friends on the SDANET forum like Ted Noel who said the following:

Susan,
Thanks for the heads-up. However, I do not plan to address the Internet Infidels forum, since the purpose of such forums is to impress the members with their erudition and the stupidity of Christians. No argument I present is likely to have any effect. The posts made are quite clear evidence of this. I will continue to study scripture to find ways to deal with difficult passages. And the Infidels will always be able to throw stones. The only effective rebuttal will come when Christ returns and they call for the rocks to fall on them.

No, you seem to be exhibit A for Noel's argument.

Let me see. What you are saying here is that Matthew 24 is wrongly translated by most Christian bibles despite the fact that the Greek version is quite clear.

So all these scholarly Christian translators deliberately mislead their flocks and give atheists ammunition against the only true faith.

Great!
You are finally right about something.
I guess you needed that.
It's yours. Enjoy it.
