All of this above stuff just goes to show me that tipping is stupid, and that the waitstaff/bartenders should be paid better from the get-go.
Why is my suggestion worse than tipping (the status quo)?? NPM |

I had a similar experience to the OP a few weeks ago.
I was at a downtown San Diego club. Very busy. I ordered 2 drinks and got out 14 dollars (6 each for the drinks and 2 for tip). But the drinks were actually $7 a piece!! I put my 14 dollars on the bar, he came back with the drinks, took the 14 plus $2 left next to it by the guy before me, said thanks!, ran back to the cash register and then to the other side of the bar to serve someone else. So I left. He would have had a tip had he stuck around but I wasn't going to go out of my way to get him his 2 bucks! In Australia you don't tip at all unless it's a really nice restaurant- but the service is soooooo slow (compared to here) that it makes you wonder if tips really do work "To Insure Prompt" service. If I have poor service, I'll leave half or 1/3 the normal tip. That seems to send the message more than none at all(they know sometimes people steal tips from tables)- and you can still go back there. trillian |
