So, I don't really have a good reason for posting this, except it's funny enough that I thought people here might enjoy it.
So, my friend bought a car. It's a 1994 Dodge Shadow ES, with sunroof. However, it had some "special modifications" that he's been getting fixed, and they are the reason for the poll. Here are the mods, if I remember them all. 1) Air intake/manifold: replaced with a piece of plastic of indeterminate origin (which didn't form a seal) and a piece of forced-air duct. Everything that's supposed to connect? Hanging loose in the engine. 2) 2 1/2" catback exhaust w/ straight pipe... welded on. 3) Rear spring clamps. 4) Stick-on window tinting. 5) removed the "dodge" and "Shadow ES" from the trunk. 6) the audio system... well, it was, perhaps, the most interesting. The aftermarket head unit was improperly mounted. Furthermore, the door speakers had been replaced... but the originals (which were just as good) hadn't been removed. Also, they were wired in backwards. Then, the rear speakers, which were designed for an enclosure, were exposed, and wired in on a mono channel. Then there were two amps going to twin 12" (or 15", I don't recall) woofers in a plywood box in the trunk... only, the amps were wired to splitters... in mono. Furthermore, all the wire splicing was done by splicing in an extra section of wiring to each end. So, which option would you apply to the guy who did these modifications? |

I had to vote "Other" because it couldn't be just one of those choices, it's all of them. With a modification of #1 as follows: "...not to be allowed within 50' of anything."

I have a better question: what do you call someone who knowingly buys a car in this condition and then complains to his friends about it?

Why does the 1994 Dodge Shadow look like something which was made in 1986 by a blind man with no opposable thumbs?

What do you expect for $1600? Not much, true...but...
$1300 got me a '91 Plymouth Laser with interior in perfect condition, exterior in excellent condition, full maintenance records and has been pretty reliable for me in the year I've had it, high-quality Pioneer CD player (was one of the best players out two years ago when it was brand new), new tires... |

No, my friend and I live about 3 hours from Pitt (in State College), and the car came from NY, iirc, but I think the guy said something about having moved from Pitt not too long ago. Unless I'm thinking of one of the other auctions we looked at in the 5 months we were looking for cars...
Hmmm... was the one you're thinking of maroon? (in the Bugs Bunny sense of "maroon", what a fitting color for the car...) |
