Because AFAIK, the only female mammals that menstruate are primates.

Doh! I misspoke. I meant to say all primates and not mammals in general. All female mammals have an oestrus cycle, but most reabsorb uterine material if not fertalized instead of shedding it externally as primates do. Thanks for the clarification.

So I guess we have to ask the creationists why would God punish monkeys too when only the humans were naughty?

Well, I should probably let an expert answer this, but as the former owner of various dogs, I can tell you that bitches in heat bleed from their vaginas. I'd call that menstruation.

Well, you'd be wrong. Bitches bleed at, or usually just before (proestrus) the most fertile time of their cycle, primates bleed at the least fertile. A bitch bleeding is breakthrough bleeding from the proliferation of the endometrium. Menstruation is physiological shedding of the endometrium, and it only happens in primates.
