I would most certainly consider pro-wrestlers to be athletes. The fact that they put on a show, rather than compete in a sport, is neither here nor there. I would consider circus acrobats and trapeze artists to be athletes, too.

I would think it would be a little harder to tell with Athiests. Most religious players spout off about how god helped them hit their homerun, pass the ball,or get a lucrative advertising deal, but it probably wouldn't work for athiest,so finding out if they are one would be harder.

I'd guess that the number of athiest athletes in a country would correspond roughly with the percentage of people in the population who are athiest.Unless a large percentage of the athletes are hired from other countries.

No, but Matt Hayden does the sign of the cross every time he gets a hundred. And most of the Indian batsmen look up and thank a god when they do something good, but they also talk to the sky when bad things happen, so i respect them for being internally consistent. Oh and Hansie Cronje blamed the devil for tempting him to fix matches. It's a very religious sport sometimes, but any sport that stops when it rains is bound to have ideas regarding divine intervention.

I'm an atheist. Am I missing out on something by not being an 'athiest'?

Well, you could be a little athier, but being athiest is definitely the best!

That's cool! There are so many 'folfers' in my town, its quite popular. We even have teams that've made it to international competitions.

Kazushi Sakuraba is an atheist? Wow! Where'd you hear about that?

Sadly, I have to agree. He seems to be past his prime, but wow, all his fights are a joy to watch (even those where he was pummeled senseless).
