Why is it that God continually makes an example of those who just don't listen to Him? Surely that compounds an element of free will?

Why did Jeremiah suffer so at the hand of God? What did Jonah do that warrented him spending time in the Leviathon? And why did Ezekiel lead his people to consume barley cakes mixed with excrement? Is the bible simply telling us that the Lord is God and what He wants He gets?

Why does he take the ever faithful Job and smite all his cattle with disease, decimates his wealth, sends a dust-bowl wind to desimate his house that eventually kills all his children. I do not see this story as a parable of faith even as the rug is, quite literally, pulle dout from under you. I can only see it as a portrait of an unjust world where you derive the anti-Aesop lesson - there is no reason to be good.

In fact with the righteous so downtrodden, what is to stop us concluding that we may as well go an murder and make mayhem: perhaps crime does not pay, but goodness actually seems to cost. Even Moses, for all his devotion, is not allowed to see the land of Canaan and David has too much blood on his hand to be the one to build the holy temple.

I bet the answer to this will be something like, "God is like a parent to us all. Don't your parents like it if you acknowledge something that they did for you, or something that they gave you?"

Where does your god come from?

"God didn't have to come from anything. He's always existed."

Why does your god hide?

If your god has a plan and it is unknowable to me, but plainly violent, then how can it have any caring for humans at all?

If a man dies and goes to eternal paradise as a prince, how is that a sacrifice?

I like these. I'll keep them in mind.

And just let him try Pascal's Wager. This is a Muslim country; I'll ask what's to prevent me from going to Muslim hell.

You start by not debating.

You start by having a dialogue. You say that Christians arent going away and atheists are going away. With those those facts in find discuss how we will get along better in our society.

Debates about the existence of god are usually a waste of time and sometimes they do damage. The willingess to debate makes it appears that its a no holds barred sporting match with a winner. Us against them with no middle ground. However life isn't like that.

Spend the time discussing how alike you are. What does justice mean? Fairness? kindness?

Breaking stereotypes are important. not winning debates.

I don't mean to offend, DC, but your suggestion sounds naïve. The religious mind and the secular mind are in the greatest enmity. There is simply no common ground.

You did DD.
quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Humanity is disgusting and doesn't deserve respect.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How soon we forget, eh?

And what was the context of that quote?(BTW in which thread?)

I need to see this again. I thought it was obvious in the context presented.
