god works in mysterious ways, yeah, that's it. It's only coincidence that it is the same as random chance.

Queenofswords: Amzingly well put, LOL good.
If this is what Christianity does to people, I'm so glad I'm an atheist. Lets hold on to that tought....christianity may do this to people, but the words of Jesus, paints another picture, which I adhere to. Why christians can't give up this idea of punishment, I'll fathom little of christianity, but plenty of Jesus' words. IMHO, there is a huge difference between what Jesus taught, and how people(christians in particular) interpret the words. If an interpretation is in conflict with any of Jesus' words, then it is faulty. God will afaik not punish anyone in that sense. It doesn't make sense to me DD - Love Spliff |

Even when I was devout, I didn't appreciate the "Don't question" attitude. The Bible says, "Let Us make man in Our image." Unless the Magellanic Clouds are the adrenal glands of the Almighty, that verse must mean that G-d gave us our reasoning ability, among other things. Does it follow that G-d is going to send us to Hell for using the gift that G-d has given us to consider the book that is supposed to be G-d's word, and for being like G-d in that respect?

Also, a Christian once told me that if he gave faulty teaching that resulted in someone's damnation, the Christian who gave that faulty teaching would lose some of his reward in Heaven. Now, how does that work? "Margaret, because you believed Jeff when he misinterpreted some obscure verse in II Peter, you're going to suffer for eternity. Jeff, because you've done this bad thing, you'll have one fewer ruby in a crown that's there just so you can cast it at My feet anyway."

Queenofswords, take solace in the fact that according to many theists I have talked to, real Christians never leave the flock. Therefore these deconverts weren't real Christians, therefore you didn't sin!
Tah Dah! Any unethical person can use some dirty attorney tricks and get around this whole bible thing and end up in heaven, it's all in how you look at it. |
