Speaking of which, I want to give a big second to "I ate Pascal's wafer". That is just pure genius, and that guy should be rewarded. It is over and above anything else that any other normal person tries to do.

Seriously, though, I like BibleHumper and Bible-Belted myself.

Actually, I was gonna mention your's as one of my fav's...

Really.

(I'm a former fundie - from back in my teen-years, and was very much into Xtianiaty, and knew *all* the arguments, and my damned 30-ish newbie fundie ex-sis-in-law actually tried the "Pascal's Wager" argument on me recently, like I was some kind of damn stupid little kid!...like I have told her - I'VE HEARD IT ALL BEFORE!!!)

Another vote for Mr. Fristians.

There used to be someone here named "occam's toothbrush," which I thought was cute too.

Hey, thanks. I just don't get enough respect around here, what with such a cool name like this and not even making it in the original poll. But, I'm not bitter. I'm over it. Really, I am.

I'm not a former fundy, but I was a Catholic and Pascal's Wager was something that seemed convincing enough at the time. Of course I was a child then as well, so I'm not too regretful.

Living in a small little redneck town I got to hear every argument in the book, too. It's hard making some xians understand that I've heard them all and that they aren't going to be able to convince me unless they come up with some novel idea which nobody in the last couple thousand years has been able to do (or at least a little evidence). Ah well, I digress.

Opera Nut stated thusly:

I like Christ-on-a-stick, I Ate Pascal's Wafer, Thanatoast and Skeptic Tank. italics mine
Hey, I almost missed that. Muchas Gracias! That, and you put me in good company!

Opera Nut also stated thusly:
Quote:
One disturbing thing about some folks who read sci-fi is that they stifle their emotions and think that emotions are too sissy. Their idol is...you guessed it, Mr. Spock. They often tend to be control freaks. Life is more complicated than that.
Well, hope this doesn't come off as "pelting you with rotten fruit", but that certainly doesn't describe me.

I generally do not stifle my emotions, unless I find myself in certain situations where they would be viewed as inappropriate. And I don't see expressed emotions as indicative of "sissiness", in myself or anyone else.

Nor am I a big Star Trek fan.

Nor am I a control freak.

Then again, I tend to prefer "hard" sci-fi, which is the subgenre of science fiction in which the narratives' settings include little or nothing that is deemed impossible by current scientific findings. Which means no psychic powers, no magic, and the Force is definitely not with you. Sometimes FTL (travelling Faster Than Light) is acceptable to me, despite the violation of relativity. As long as the author can give a half-way decent explanation.

As to the last line in the above quote, life is indeed incredibly complicated. One of the reasons I enjoy hard sci-fi is that it can brilliantly elucidate just how complicated life may become.

Anways, back to topic. I gotsta give it up fo' Bible Humper. Why are all the pages in The Song of Solomon stuck together?

I'm a sci-fi fan, and I'm not emotional. Maybe it's just the Virgo in me...
