People want to express something when they hear of something like this, so I think the positive intentions behind the prayer are genuine. It just gets a little weird when you really look at where the prayer supposedly goes.

Big to-do by some atheists about nothing at all.
It is a shame that they both died. I don't think any of this tragedy has anything to do with prayer at all. So some Muslims brought "faith" into it. So what? If it makes them feel better. All that is known is that many people felt a lot of empathy for those twins, both theists and non-theists. And that they both died, even though many theists and non-theists were pulling for them. Whoever started this thread to make a statement against prayer should be ashamed of themselves. Get a life----------Not every event that happens should be made a case either for belief or non-belief. |

So, what does a theist make of this?
God conjoined them in the embryonic stage for some perverted reason that we can not possibly fathom , then when these brave young women made their choice (or did they, if all is pre-ordained by God), despite their faith and everyone offering prayers to God, they die,(again pre-ordained by this so-called loving God), what if any lesson does the God-believer get from this? The only conclusion I can see if I was a believer is that God is a sadistic shithead. |

They were two brave souls.
Kind of weird and sad at the same time to see two caskets with the two girl's bodies. They finally were two individuals. I can understand that they would rather be dead than to continue to live conjoined. |

Look at it from a theist viewpoint: these two lovely ladies were made perfect (at least in God's eyes). For some unfathomable reason, they wanted to change the way God made them into something that was more acceptable - more comfortable - for them. They didn't even think about what kind of plan God might have had for them - they were too busy being selfish. Then they blasphemed and said they'd rather be dead than continue to live as God made them. Yikes. |

I was recently in Las Vegas and hit the slots for a few hours (and won too!)
Anyway, I know that the machines have computerized RNG's (Random Number Generators) and that your outcome is only based on the settings of the machine and when you press the button (or however you start the thing moving). However, I talked with several "seasoned" players who insisted that tapping the glass, or pulling the handle, or pressing the button 3 times was a valid system and somehow it improved their odds. One woman insited that she needed to let her "cold" machines rest for 5 minutes precisely before continuing. They knew it was true because sometimes they won that way. They seem to only remember the "successes" and not the "failures", which are certainly plentiful in slots! I think people who pray think the same thing, regardless if it's illogical. As has been said before, superstition makes us feel that we have control over something which we have no obvious control over. trillian |

Selfish???
They lived in that body for 29 years. They didn't take anyone's else's life. They made a decision hoping they would be able to survive the operation and live as two normal (so to speak) human beings. It couldn't have been an easy decision to make. I consider them very, very brave. Heroic in fact. I would have had that operation tried at 21. |
