Some women are fond of bananas, apparently. I keep getting spam advertising sites for 'girls with fruit', 'veggie chicks' and the mind-boggling 'Cucumber Kathy'...

Yep, I get those also. I wonder just where they fit in the evolutionary scheme of things.

There are billions of dollars involved here. I can't believe that the industry has not forseen something like this and made contingency plans. I predict that this matter will fade away like the Y2K scare. The Admiral You need to turn the computer off and the radio on a bit more. I heard the whole story last night on PBS, and a) bananas propagate by sending up shoots from their roots which turn into new trees eventually, and b) the Belgians or the Danes HAVE ALREADY developed a disease-resistant strain of banana. The problem with the plant is that it may not be imported into the African nations which depend on bananas as a staple BECAUSE OF EUROPEAN UNION RULES AGAINST BIO-ENGINEERED FOODS. (The Africans were trying to be forward-thinking in adapting European laws, but now they're stuck starving because of this.) (I'm not being super-precise here, just passing along general outline heard on radio.) __________________ I'm moving to a small town and starting a subliminal "intentional community" there; if you're sick of noise, contact me. |
