Cool Famous Libertarians

Famous libertarians, like Harry Browne, Thomas Jefferson, and some you would least expect, Neal Boortz and Howard Stern.

Yeah big surprise that Howard Stern is a libertarian (and I mean that in a bad way).

Last time I checked Dave Berry called himself an anarchist.

anyway all my preferences aside I didn't find this list very impressive. I basically didn't know who any of these people where... the ones that were "famous" enough to get a epitaph were almost always "talk show radio host" or "libertarian canidate"

and to call Jefferson a libertarian is silly.

Wow, Orson Bean, Drew Carey, Matt Drudge, Al Goldstein, John Larroquette, P.J. O'Rourke (P.J. O'Rourke is a fucking Republican), Kurt Russell, Howard Stern ... that's mighty impressive. Where do I sign up?

(Thomas Jefferson - nice try.)

The "official" Libertarian Party might not have been around in the late 1700's, but Jefferson was the inspiration for most of the modern party's platform, and was arguably much closer to Libertarian in principle and practice than any other modern party around today.

I mean, if Jefferson were alive today, which party do you guys think he'd join? The Democrats? Please....

What a puny list. Art Bell...? Wasn't he abducted by aliens?

Some famous socialists:

Albert Einstein
Clarence Darrow
Jean Paul Sartre
Pablo Picasso
George Orwell
Marie Curie
Paul Robeson
Oscar Wilde
Moon...

Well the "official" Libertarian Party might claim Jefferson's views as the basis for their own, but the fact is that their views more closely resemble those of Ayn Rand than any of the founding fathers'. I don't even think the founding fathers could be accurately placed in modern American politics as anything other than "independent."

It's a decent list. I'm more impressed with some than others. But Art Bell? That guy's nuttier than a fruitcake!

Yes, the Libertarian Party does use some quotes by Jefferson for a basis.

self-government. -- Thomas Jefferson, 1821.

Well for starters Jefferson wanted an 11th Bill of Rights Amendment that would have strictly curbed the power that corporations could attain. The Federalists managed to keep that one out and look at the result today!

Anway that doesn't seem remotely libertarian to me. I'd think him more of a green.
