Her family obviously feels it's a miracle of the first sort. Her Aunt quoted Isaiah during the news conference here.

Isaiah 49:25: But thus saith the LORD, Even the captives of the mighty shall be taken away, and the prey of the terrible shall be delivered: for I will contend with him that contendeth with thee, and I will save thy children.

I'm actually surprised that the local news hasn't taken advantage and made a sound bite from this. The local affiliate is Mormon Church owned after all. They could convert many a parent who is nervous about their children.

Ironically, I feel that it was Ms. Smarts exposure to the church that helped in her brainwashing. Her captor was after all following the "true" teachings of her awknowledged prophet.

I thought it was rather amusing that Ed Smart, the devout Mormon father of Elizabeth Smart, said his daughter had been "brainwashed".

Hmmm... now what did I do with that lovely little picture of a pot calling the kettle black?

If it makes some people feel good to believe that Elizabeth was saved by divine intervention, then more power to them. But what about all the other missing children, many of whose families are no doubt just as faithful and devout as the Smarts. Why doesn't God perform a miracle to allow those children to be recovered? That God sure is one capricious dude.
