No they don't

Pick one and I'll lead you through all the internal contradictions in your tottering jerry-built theology - nailed together as it is of parts of other people's traditions and beliefs.

I know Christianity is false, because I know that most of the major incidents of the life of Christ are borrowed from older faiths. Once you understand the origins of Christianity it is impossible to conceive that it might be true.

Common goal:

Why are we here?

To be... together!

(Is there a more sensible answer?)

Jesus Myther, eh?
Do I have to pay you $19.95 to find out the "secret truth" of Christianity?

I come here because here and my UU gathering are the only places I can interact with other non-believers, without some theist trying to make me see the light, as it were.

I come here because I enjoy exploring religion, philosophy, science and the events going on around the world. Out of all the sites I have frequented (including religious sites and managing a Jewish site) I have found this place to be the most intellectual stimulating and free. I enjoy being amongst likeminded people AND people who disagree with me wildly. I enjoy the constructive criticism I have received and the opportunity to refine my arguments. Most of all I enjoy the freedom of expression I enjoy at II. This place certainly helped cement my budding atheistic beliefs, but I do not need them to be reinforced. Why is it strange that people with a lack of belief in Gods would find themselves in a common forum communicating about the many aspects of life? And if some come here to reinforce their feelings – so what? That does not make their feelings or conclusions wrong because they desire to have those things reinforced by a community of others.

My mother is a UU. I find there belief in the free exchange of ideas refreshing. Though I couldn't ever see myself attending there. Though technically I would be welcome. My mother does not consider herself a Christian but says some at her church do.

On the topic of the OP:

No, I don't come here for reassurance. I've long since lost interest in the God debate and I post mainly in the political forums now (the only thing that brought me here was a crosslink from a moved thread.)

It is a pointless rabbit hole for me now. A "futile addition of zeros," as a character from the Linklater film "Waking Life" said.

I'm so happy not to be arguing about religion anymore.
