Default Question

I was reading a review of X2 and the critic mentioned that Magneto has created an invention in the film that produces some of the film's best visuals. I haven't seen the movie, but I'm very curious as to what this device is. Description please?

I don't recall any device. There was a pretty cool sequence of his escape from prison though but it did not involve any device.

From Roger Ebert's review of the film:

Quote:
One might reasonably ask what threat could possibly be meaningful to mutants with such remarkable powers, but Magneto, who has serious personal issues with mutants, has devised an invention which I will not describe, except to say that it provides some of the movie's best visuals.
Maybe Ebert was imagining things?

Ebert's probably talking about Magneto's escape scene. He makes interesting (i.e. damned cool) use of metal from an interesting source.

I saw X-Men 2 on Sunday afternoon.
Great film.
Good balance between story and action.
Random thoughts:
I LOVED Mystique, such style, such ability (I too liked the slide through the doorway, float everyone the bird scene) IMO, Wolverine was nuts to kick her out of bed. You have someone who can look like anyone you want. And he's kicking her out of bed?
*shakes head in puzzlement
Yes, Yes I know its part of the comics. I don't care, I still prefer Mystique.

The nightcrawler fight scene was way cool. The teleportation was fast and rapid fire. I too think that Nightcrawler was excellently done. The portrayal was excellent.

Cyclops was a little flat for my tastes. In the comic, he was quite good at superhero tactics. In the movie, They don't show that at all.

I wanted to see more Colossus but I they don't want to spread themselves too thin. SO I its OK...

A few more minor quibbles but all in all I liked it. Good balance between story and action-film.

PS--I too agree that Jackman and McKewen played their parts very well. Some very good acting there.

I don't like the way that the story will be proceeding. Its too fast, the character of Jean gray is not yet fully developed and now, she has to change role.

Besides, Phoenix should come only after apocalypse and Juggernaut appear and the main role of the phoenix was to stop the use of the Emerald crystal(sorry I forget the name). So, there should be no reason for the Phoenix to appear now other than to 'save' Jean

Peter David is the Man. I collected nearly his entire run on Hulk, and I always hated the Hulk. He is the only reason I still collect any comic book (Young Justice).

Klug,

I think Wolverine kicked Mystique out of the tent . . . well . . . because . . . well, who knows what ungodly thing she could turn into on a moments notice just to screw with your mind. It could put you off sex!

Her last "incarnation" was that of Rogue, I believe.

I thought it was pretty creepy when Mystique turned into Rogue in the tent. Was she trying to play on some of Wolverine's deep dark desires?

And I think the device Ebert referred to is Cerebro. Magneto says at one point that he helped Xavier build it, so this is what Ebert could have been referring to. If so, I would agree that it does provide some amazing images. I like the way it gives an impression of the number of mutants on Earth.

For some additional fun, check out the capalert review of X2. In the offenses to God section, it lists off each mutant power. Do these people have any understanding of the notion of fiction? The film isn't trying to portray reality. I also noticed "numerous references to evolution" in the offenses to god section :banghead:
