Would Christians take a 'principled' stand against life virtual or practical 'immortality' on the grounds that it seperates them from God?
Why should they? After all, Christians could commit suicide so that they would be close to God as soon as possible no matter how long this life would be. (I am assuming here that we will also have the possibility of terminating our personal life whenever we wish.) In fact, I think a good case can be made for the thesis "Christians should commit suicide". See this.
