I would have expected nothing less from Moore, who cares more about his message than he does about keeping up appearences. Go Mike!

If anyone's interested, Bowling for Columbine is up for pre-order at Amazon.com. I've got my order in.

Whatever anyone thinks of Michael Moore or what he said, I think it is safe to say that the idea that everyone rallies around the "commander 'n chief" merely because he is at war is so last century.

Of course everyone has the right to say what they want and I have the right to criticize the equivalent of a fat hairy drunk with bad breath getting out of line at a party.
He went beyond the pale and is a disgrace.
I'll take Moore's comments over the perennial "aren't we heroes because we make movies that enrich people's lives?" speech at the Oscars (this year brought to us by Olivia de Havilland).

At least Moore had some bite to his remarks. Many of those actors will feed that same line to their fans, but in a more general and roundabout way - so they can never be directly implicated.

Moore is what he is, and that's why he makes good documentaries.

The masses at the Oscars would be quite satisfied to award actors only, and to spend 2 hours of broadcast time stroking their own egos and patting their own backs to viewers in 150 countries.

I must say I was impressed that he was able to get all the other documentary makers up there with him for that speech. I was much more interested in that show of solidarity and purpose than the typical "id like to thank my manager and miramax"

Wrong. I expect people to voice theirviews. But there's a difference between saying "I disagree with your position" and "you're a fucking moron and your heads stuck up your ass".

And the guy from 'Tambien? While he inadvertantly claimed to speak for everyone, I really found nothing offensive about what he said. It was obvious he had some deep feelings and he didn't express those feelings in the manner of an obnoxious self aggrandizing a-hole.

My disgust with Moore stems not from my difference of opinion, but from his stupid behaviour.

self-aggrandizing asshole? eh whatever... he said nothing far out at all. Basically he said: THe people up here, we are taking a stance against your war.

"you're a fucking moron and your heads stuck up your ass".

nothing like that was said.

It seemed to me that what brought the boos was not so much his stance on the war it was his "ficticious president" line -- a clear reference to the process by whch Dubya assumed the office.

The great majority of people accept that Dubya is the president and that it is time to move on. After all, we'll get our chance to unseat him in 2k4.

Many people made comments about the war, and gave their calls for peace. I don't recall anyone else attacking the president for the manner in which he was elected.

The Oscars is not a medium for political statements. If an actor wants to say something, I say go ahead, but do it at an appropraite time. These awards become more of a joke every year.

You're missing the point. There's a difference between making a statement and being offensive. If you don't find how and what he said to be boorish and offensive-especially given the times we're in... That's up to you.

Personally, if some celebrity used a forum like that and attempted to express my views in such an obnoxious and undignified manner I sure as heck wouldn't be saying how great the guy was. I'd be embarrassed.
Moore has probably created 100's of thousands of detractors through his lack of decorum. Not a good way to get your point across.

This is much the same as anti war protesters breaking the law by stopping traffic and tying up public services. You don't do much for your cause by pissing *everyone* off. This is a concept that even Al Sharpton seems to have realized.
