Default A taste of Liberal Medicine

I saw a speech by Bill Moyer on World Link television. It was a really good one. In it, he speaks of the treason the Republican party is committing with our nation today. And then he spoke of the liberal, progressive cause. Then he said something very telling, something awaking, as good speakers do. He mentioned how women's civil rights, social security, the eight hour work day were all things that were fought for over a long period of time to become a reality. My research in the Democratic Socialist Party (DSP) in the US can confirm the 8 hour work day, and for sure the same fights were made for the woman's right to vote and the abolition of slavery. As for the DSP, it wasn't until Debs obtained nearly 1 million votes, that the big parties started to listen and start enacting pro-labor laws. It wasn't until Ross Perot cost the Republicans two elections that the budget was balanced. A woman's right to vote went through a long and arduous path, till finally it was seen.

And yet today, things such as social security and welfare and worker's rights are just tossed about. But more importantly, we see the same fight today against current right violations of homosexuals and immigrants. In the late 1850's people would have laughed at the prospect of women voting. In the 1950's people would have laughed at the prospect of open homosexuals marrying. Yet with the same vile denial of reality that was seen against the laborers in the late 1800's and early 1900's, the right to being an open homosexual with all the same rights as a heterosexual is in battle. The Limbaughs and Gingrichs that storm out into the media with their hateful martra of Conservatism only wash out the history of this country.

It burns me. Our history is something we should learn from, yet the party in control merely wants to help out their own buddies and get richer based on ignorant idealogies hidden in the guise of patriotism. This administration is attempting to dismantle every this country is. It is our job as the electorate not to let this happen. We need this country to survive. We need the respect of the world. We need to be the best country in the world, not because of our weapons, but because of our ideaologies and compassion.

So, official today, I'm launching Bury Bush in '04. This ignorant bastard can not be allowed to win. Ignorance shouldn't be allowed to win. We need a candidate for '04 because if Bush gets a second term, we might as well close shop because the class war will begin in 2008.

Take solace in the fact that the last time a Republican (Rebuttlickin') candidate won the popular vote was in 1988.
