Good question, as I see it there hasn't been much conclusive evidence for OBL involvement, although it seems a safe bet. Somethign that has been overlooked in all this is the tenuous connection of the Taliband's involvement. Based on what has transpired in the so called "war on terrorism" it is clear that the Bush administration is seizing on the attacks and using it to justify all areas of his right-wing psycho agenda, whether that be in giving billions to corporations, promoting his faith based inititive, or extending american hegemony in the middle-east for to the benefit him and dick's oil compnay cronies, the few Politians (but the mass of people throughout the world--seems to be a pattern in history huh) who have opposed him have been characterized as unpatriotic or soft on terrorism. Mullah Omar, despite the brutality of his regime, is only being targeted because of Afghanistan's proxity to the middle east; there are plenty of countries with comparable human rights problems, many of which are our allies, such as Turkey, Indonesia, Columbia, Guatemala, El Salvador, et al.
The latest controversy only makes these links more visible, although most americans will find reasons to ignore these "irrelevant" indiscretions as well. It's all about the axis of evil remember, the only question now is which axis of evil? |
