Well as I've said earlier, our brain is compelled to choose what it determines is the best course of action. This might not be what the socially responsible self wants, but it is what the brain wants. And whether the brain is truly free to make its choice is another topic, but I'd say that it is not - since it *always* chooses what it determines is the best course of action. (based on the information in the short term memory and triggered long term memory patterns)
It is a world of enveloping causality, the universe we live in. Whether determination is always predetermination, we cannot tell. What we can tell is that human beings consciously assume the responsability of their choices, which is the key of free will. Under conditions of perfect isolation, a magnet passing by a little steel ball will ALWAYS subdue it. Under conditions of perfect isolation, a man passing by a young girl may or may not commit a rape. Free will: a matter of conscious, responsible choice.

I'm obviously not getting through to you, despite now three attempts to distinguish cognition as an epistemological consideration from one that depends on "psychology."

Does this make sense to you? And are you seeing your own position in this way, or have I misjudged you?
I must be a peculiar breed, no different in this respect from everyone else here, with my own depths and limitations. I become analytical where others seem synthetical, and vice versa. I unify when I feel like it, and discriminate where it suits me. My reason works hard to control my irrationalities.

I was not trying to contradict you - just genuinely making an attempt to assimilate your view. I need to ask in order to clear away confusions.

In Volume I, chapter 1, of his "Logical Investigations," Husserl seeks to critique psychologism. In the first sections of this chapter, he sets forth the normative nature of theoretical disciplines generally, they being "mental creations directed to a certain end, and for that reason to be judged in accordance with that end."
Well, I have no problem in understanding Logic and Phychology as two distinct disciplines. The former studies the formal conditions in which thinking can reach true conclusions starting from true premises, while pshychology studies the entire brain and all its mental states.

I have come to regard it as that which an agent needs in a functional sense to construct a human mind in the first place, where it is possible to conceive this as a product of the human genome, ideally considered, as directed toward constructing it.
My perception, now as well as when I did my readings on Kant and Husserl, is that cognition and cognitive apperception are psychological phenomena. The mind, you say, is ideally molded separately from what is considered the psyche. If you can bear with me, please explain the relation between these two plans, if there is any. Note that it is a genuine question, I'm not arguing or anything. (in university i learned that i should ask any question, no matter how stupid it - or I - may seem)
